Congratulations to Grace Zhang, who was a Junior Prize winner, taking 3rd place at the Global John Locke Academy Writing Competition, which is held by Oxford and Princeton Universities.
The John Locke Institute encourages young people to cultivate the characteristics that turn good students into great writers: independent thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, critical analysis and persuasive style. Our Essay Competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum. ..All of our essay prizes are judged by senior academics from the University of Oxford. The judges will choose their favourite essay from each subject category and an overall 'best essay' across seven subjects: Philosophy, Politics, Economics, History, Psychology, Theology and Law
Grace’s essay was a discussion about organ donation and sales. She offered a sophisticated argument for the vulnerabilities of organ donation - specifically kidney - from multiple perspectives, but particularly the position of potential kidney donors in poor countries, who may not understand the ramifications of their choice, may not have access to appropriate healthcare, and may be vulnerable to exploitation. We are so proud of her!!
